Highworth Recreation Centre (HRC) has secured Olympic legacy funding from Sport England?s Inspired Facilities Fund. The Inspired Facilities fund is part of the ?135 million Places People Play legacy programme that is bringing the magic of a home Olympic and Paralympic Games into communities across the country. Every sports facility that receives funding will carry the London 2012 Inspire mark ? celebrating the link to the Games.
?
HRC Trustees, Swindon Borough Council (SBC) and Highworth Town Council (HTC) have worked together to achieve funding to provide a new modern swimming pool changing village. A total of ?130,500 (including ?50,000 from Inspired Facilities) has been approved for the project. This funding will increase participation, improve access for everyone and specifically those with disabilities, families, older people and schools. The plan now is to;
?
Use the existing male/female changing rooms to create a new changing village with new showers, separate cubicles including individual and family changing rooms.
?
Provide more accessible facilities with a dedicated changing room for disabled users
?
Relocate reception to allow more space for the new changing area and create views into the swimming pool

Chair of the Highworth Recreation Centre Charitable Company Board, Jenny Shorten said ?We are delighted to have secured this investment so we can upgrade our changing rooms to match the quality of our swimming pool. When we surveyed our customers they told us how much this will encourage them to use the centre even more.
?
?I?m sure local people and our partners will all be very proud that Highworth is getting a lasting reminder of the Olympic and Paralympic Games last year. It will really help us deliver our vision of excellence in leisure and sport here in the town.?
